We would like to approach this topic from two perspectives. One perspective and the fundamental one being man as an evolved species like other sentient beings as the handiwork of God and the other perspective as a male being one half of the human species. After the new insights into genetic code and the composition of the human genome we learn that the basic building blocks of all life is same and the difference between the genetic coding of a human being and say that of an evolved animal species is less than 2 % in the genetic coding and perhaps less than 4 % from other living matter fro the plant world. Whether we like it or not the human species in its genetic make up is not very different from any other primate. Even before the serious investigations into composition of life by truly scientific methodologies and testing of various hypothesis by best mathematical models over the last fifty years the belief that origins for all forms of life and by logical extension all sentience was the same was held by perceptive and far thinking people of all varieties not only theological but from other walks like musicians, artists, writers, mathematicians, scientists, legal people etc. The problem was that a few hundred years ago it would be heretical to air such views in public from pain of ostracization to ridicule. In our new spiritual age with openness, freedom to hold opinion and persuade others democratically and the concern to fill our existential vacuum there is enlightened debate in select circles in all liberal societies the world over.

To be truly a man in the spiritual sense a man must destroy selfishness within himself. It takes time and effort but very possible. Once a man is able to do that then he must make sure that he does not fall into the ways of selfishness. Once you have achieved that you can go anywhere, carry on with any activity, mix with any sort of people, eat anything you like you will neither attract evil nor do anything evil. Shedding selfishness man becomes dispassionate and will not be attached to anything. Like the lotus leaf it is mired in filth and immersed in water and neither it gets filthy or it gets wet. When a man becomes non attached he is ready to follow any yoga. A man with all riches may not become non attached even if he did the most severest penance because he is too attached to his person while one has gone beyond the body is rich whether he has wealth or not. Our body should not become everything to us otherwise we will be struggling for the sake of our body throughout our life. Non attachment does not mean anything we may do in relation to our external body; it is all in the mind. The link that binds me to mine is in the mind. A true man is one who has severed the link with his body and between his senses and his body where ever and in which ever situation or circumstances he is in. A man may be a rich beyond imagination and yet be non attached while a man poor as a door mouse might be highly attached. A man becomes truly a man when he attains the state of non attachment.

We have dual and even multiple personalities. We are one ‘self’ in our work, business or job, another at home, another amongst one set of friends and still another with a different set and still another in the church we go to. We hesitate to do in public what we easily do in private. Our many selves are incompatible with one another and we get confused and create endless problems for ourselves and all our creative energies go in trying to reconcile our different selves and become emotional and spiritual wrecks. Again by these many different personalities we follow different codes of conduct and end up paying a heavy price in the form of restlessness and bondages. We end up creating a living hell in our own lives and lay the seeds of a terrible chain of evil consequences.
